Brown Punk kicks off its live residency with an explosive set by The Dirty
01.08.2007

As the evening begins with a stellar introduction by Art Rocker's Stuart Plimsoles' DJ set of classic gems and rock anthems, the room filled up amidst glass lit chandeliers and naughty red velvet curtains.  Bunjy (Laid Bak) supports the family cause hitting the decks next with his recipe of reggae, ska and and hip hop, with a slyl dropping of Christina Aguilera's dance hit 'Dirty' as a precursor to the bands entrance.

The Dirty make no excuses on stage.  Beginning boldly with their first single 'Why, I Think It's Love' they ravage the crowd, buoyed by bestial abandon and determined strength. Kyril (lead vocals) jumps, breaking into the crowd by drawing an innocent photographer in his clutch. The guitarist (Martyn) beckons a man with a beer to hand it over mid-set and Keiran (drummer) erupts into a sharp frenzy of energy at regular intervals, providing a backdrop of noise to the mayhem before us.

The crowd are amusingly antagonised as Kryril continues his pulsating performance, sustained by his erratic behaviour.  Combining faux boxer dance steps with regular attacks to the audience, members laugh embarassingly, sometimes proud that he has chosen them to profoundly sing to upclose.

The Dirty's first showcase, at The Rex Bar & Cinema, draws all the elements of punk rebellion and rock n roll. It is captured in the spirit of their lyrics and their stage show - aggressive and self-destructive, confrontational and self-conscious. The Dirty bare it all for their art.
